Wolf Guardian Totem – Stylized Prop

This stylized wolf-head guardian totem was created by one of my students as part of our Advanced ZBrush Sculpting & Texturing Module.
The goal of the assignment was to design a believable stylized asset with strong material definition, clean forms, and polished presentation.

Project Focus:

Sculpting organic forms with controlled stylization

Hard-surface detailing for armor and plates

Wood sculpt refinement with clean breakup and grain variation

Creating a natural skin–fur transition without using hair cards

Smart material creation and hand-painted enhancements in Substance Painter

Final presentation with dramatic lighting and multi-angle renders

Technical Details:

Sculpting: ZBrush

Retopo & Modeling: Maya

Texturing: Substance Painter (PBR workflow)

Rendering: Marmoset Toolbag / Unreal Engine

Maps: 4K texture set

The student focused on pushing character in the form while keeping the silhouette strong and readable. The metal, wood, and skin materials were treated separately to ensure each surface felt distinct and believable.
Overall, this artwork shows excellent growth in stylization, sculpting control, and asset presentation.
